Product Overview

3Professional Product Overview

The ALC-SCIENTIFIC Digital Vertical Autoclave is a top-loading steam sterilizer designed for controlled sterilization and decontamination of compatible laboratory materials using saturated steam under pressure. It may be used for laboratory glassware, culture media, metal instruments, selected plastics, microbiological materials, liquid loads and laboratory waste when an appropriate validated cycle and load configuration are used. Depending on the selected configuration, the autoclave may include digital temperature and time control, programmable cycles, automatic air removal, controlled steam exhaust, liquid cooling, drying, load-temperature sensing, cycle recording and advanced safety interlocks. Vertical construction provides high chamber capacity within a comparatively compact floor area. Final chamber capacity, sterilization range, operating pressure, controller functions, utilities and compliance must be confirmed for the selected ALC-SCIENTIFIC model.

Steam Sterilization

8Working Principle

A Vertical Autoclave sterilizes compatible materials using saturated steam under controlled temperature and pressure. Water is heated to generate steam, air is removed from the chamber, and the controller raises the chamber to the programmed temperature and pressure. The holding period begins only after the required sterilization condition is reached. Steam is then exhausted in a controlled manner, followed by cooling and optional drying. Liquid loads require slower exhaust and cooling to reduce boiling, bottle breakage and loss of contents.

1. Water and HeatingWater is filled and heaters generate steam.
2. Air RemovalAir is displaced by steam or removed using vacuum.
3. ExposureLoad is held at the validated temperature for the required time.
4. Exhaust and CoolingPressure is released safely before unloading.

Gravity Displacement

Steam enters the chamber and displaces cooler air downward and outward. Suitable for many liquids, glassware and simple solid loads when properly validated.

Vacuum-Assisted Operation

Pre-vacuum removes air before steam admission and may improve penetration into porous, wrapped or complex loads. Availability is model-dependent.

Sterilizer Design

9Construction and Design

External Body

Powder-coated mild steel, stainless steel or combined construction. Final sheet thickness and finish are to be confirmed.

Sterilization Chamber

Cylindrical stainless-steel pressure chamber. Possible grades include SS 304, SS 316 and SS 316L.

Top-Loading Lid

May use hinged, wheel, lever or automatic locking with heat-resistant gasket and pressure/temperature-dependent interlocks.

Steam Generation

In-chamber immersion heater, integrated steam generator, external steam or jacket arrangement depending on configuration.

Loading System

Wire baskets, solid buckets, perforated baskets, flask racks, waste containers and lifting devices may be supplied.

Controller

May display chamber temperature, load temperature, pressure, time, cycle phase, water level, alarms and batch information.

Sensors

May include chamber, load, pressure, water-level, door-position, steam-generator and cooling-system sensors.

Exhaust and Drain

Automatic exhaust, slow liquid exhaust, condensate drain, exhaust cooling and optional biological filtration.

Operational Protection

10Safety and Compliance

Never open the lid under pressure. Do not sterilize sealed containers, flammable solvents, pressurized cans or incompatible chemicals. Liquid containers must be vented and allowed to cool safely.
Routine sterilization monitoring may require mechanical cycle records, chemical indicators, biological indicators, calibration, validation and preventive-maintenance records.
Compliance and certification details: To be confirmed for the selected ALC-SCIENTIFIC model. No medical-device, CSSD, pharmaceutical-GMP, biohazard-treatment or regulated sterilization claim should be published without valid model-specific documentation and process validation.
